Platform 21 is situated in the heart of Birmingham and offers Category A open plan office space up to 112,000 sq ft (10,405m2).
This project involves the fit out of an existing 11-storey office building with a large floor plate area to a Category A specification. Cundall was employed to provide building services engineering and a BREEAM advisory role for the client.
The building services strategy includes exposed structure, heating, cooling and ventilation and suspended linear pendant LED lighting. Heating and cooling will be provided by ducted VRF heat recovery fan coil units and ventilation will be via heat recovery ventilation units on each floor allowing for maximum flexibility for zoned operation.
A focus from the start of this project has been reducing the buildings environmental impact. Conscious efforts have been made to dramatically improve energy consumption. A low and zero carbon technologies report has been completed on the building and Cundall are working with the client to reduce CO2 emissions by using a variety of low and zero carbon technologies. Photo-voltaic solar panels are being used on the roof to further improve the EPC and overall energy efficiency of the building.
The building is targeted to achieve an EPC rating B and BREEAM Very Good.
Following the successful relocation to 15 Colmore Row in 2014, Cundall’s Birmingham office reached capacity in 2017 and so decided to expand by taking the fifth floor (in addition to the fourth).
This tired 1960’s city centre retail complex has been transformed into an exciting multi-use building providing retail, banking and gym facilities within a revitalised building envelope.
North Birmingham Academy is a new 10,400m² school building located on the site of an existing school in the outskirts of Birmingham.
