Park View Student Village is a 1300 modern student accommodation for Newcastle University which incorporates off-site construction methods.
Cundall provided civil and structural engineering and planning on this project which involved the demolition of an existing 934 bed student accomodation block to allow for the 1300 modern student rooms. The work freed up space on the site to accommodate an extension to the existing University Sports Centre and a new faculty building for Sports/Medical Sciences.
Cundall worked with Galliford Try and specialist modular subcontractors CIMC to deliver the scheme, which incorporates off-site construction methods: CIMC provided factory finished modules, imported from China, stacked on site and then over-clad. 789 containers were used in total, stacked together they would measure 2178 metres high, and end to end would measure 6 miles in length.
Cundall’s Planning team’s expertise on Section 106 saved the client £440,000 before work even began on site and the use of modular construction methods with a framed core structure considerably reduced the overall programme.
The Baddiley-Clark Building, a new building for Newcastle University's Faculty of Medical Sciences, which brings together a critical mass of world-leading bacterial cell biologists and provides them with state-of-the-art facilities in which to push the boundaries of research and knowledge.
Cundall was appointed to provide MEP design for the Newcastle University Research and Training Laboratories at their Singapore Campus.
Park View Student Village picked up two awards at The Institution of Structural Engineer’s Structural Awards 2018.
