One Hyde Park is a world-class, luxury residential development situated just a few steps away from Harrods. There are 80 luxury apartments across four pavilions with high-class retail units at ground level.

This development was designed by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, with Cundall acting as building services and environmental engineers. Normally, intensively serviced buildings include a floor of plant at roof level. However, to maximise the penthouse space value, all main services plant was painstakingly concentrated together in the basement of the building. This also facilitated an uncluttered roofscape and made distribution of energy very efficient.

Cundall led the development of the environmental strategy for the apartments using 140m-deep geothermal boreholes to part heat and cool the building. The aim was to evolve an energy-efficient design that also met with the requirements of Westminster City Council and the Greater London Authority to reduce annual carbon emissions by 10% using renewable energy. A heat pump extracts the heat from the earth’s natural warmth in the ground 140m below, and transfers it to the building for space and water heating. This makes the entire development more sustainable in terms of its long-term performance, achieving an Ecohomes ‘Very Good’ rating.

The apartments, designed by Candy and Candy, with Hamiltons Architects, receive satellite channels from around the world. Other features include separate potable and softened water, chilled ceilings for a comfortable night’s sleep and fireplaces flued to the roof.
