Cundall was engaged for design, documentation and construction administration services for both ESD and mechanical engineering for the refurbishment of the Cameraygal building, a 9,000m² six storey building for the North Sydney Institute of TAFE whose objective was to embed environmentally sustainable thinking into all aspects of what they do.

The building is used to provide specialist courses in health (including aged care and nursing), digital media and information technology. Students have access to the latest technology and facilities to support their learning and study practice. It also houses the administration offices for the TAFE.

The new facility incorporates mixed mode operation with simple displays installed throughout the building indicating when windows can be opened to replace the need for air conditioning when ambient conditions permit.  Extensive metering and monitoring of energy usage and water usage takes place with an information display included in the main reception area. Innovative solar shading and glare control has also been provided using PV cells installed on the upper north facing façade, which provides the dual benefit of generating energy and saving at the same time.
