Already an exceptional setting for any type of occasion, from intimate gatherings to business meetings to lavish celebration, The Mere Golf & Country Club, Cheshire has transformed itself into one of the finest luxury resort hotels in England.
The £4 million spa is a haven of tranquillity and well-being and consists of seven luxury treatment rooms, relaxation rooms, roof top terrace with beautiful views over the golf course, hydrotherapy infinity pool, state of the art gym equipment, aerobics studio, a full salon including manicure rooms, salt steam room plus a stunning 20 metre swimming pool all set in a magnificent listed building.
Cundall provided civil and structural design services for both the hotel and leisure development. The leisure facilities includes a new build pool, building and refurbishment / remodelling of a Grade II Listed Building. The hotel is a four/three storey masonry structure with a full storey basement below.
The spa opened at the end of 2010 with the hotel taking its first guests at the end of 2011. The build programme and design was implemented with minimal disruption to all existing facilities.
Cundall detailed the foundation solution for both structures to allow for re-working the existing made ground on site. This avoided the mass removal of material on and off site, saving the client money and reducing the carbon footprint of the project significantly.
Crib lock timber retaining walls were specified to the rear of the spa and pool building opposed to using traditional concrete of masonry retaining structures. This gave a much more natural retaining feature, which promotes vegetation growth.
