Our involvement with the Manchester Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme comprised the building of 10 new secondary schools with a total construction value of circa £158m.
Over and above bricks and mortar, the programme aims to deliver real educational change. It has been devised and implemented within the context of evolving Government, Partnerships for Schools and City Council initiatives, legislation, targets and challenges.
As well as the imaginative and efficient creation of a suitable learning environment, a key aspect of the development was to achieve the Client’s Special Education Needs (SEN) inclusion strategy and provide space which is suitably adaptable for future needs.
The development was headed by two parallel design and construction teams, with a strong emphasis on partnering to achieve mutual and global benefit in terms of quality and value.
The programme comprising a wide range of specific projects ranging from flagship city academies to refurbishment of existing buildings. Cundall has played an integral part in the extensive assessment of building materials, construction systems and building inspections which have shaped an efficient and successful philosophy towards achieving the Client’s vision.
Cundall provided multidisciplinary services for this Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project for South Tyneside Council and Gateshead Borough Council to replace/upgrade the existing schools in the area.
