Jahan Mall is a new mixed-use development consisting of a 420,000m² shopping mall, hotel, offices and high end residential suites.
Cundall has been appointed to deliver Fire Engineering and Vertical Transportation that will see the 750,000m² site become a popular visitor attraction and enrich the lives of the local community.
Cundall’s Vertical Transportation team is designing 85 lifts including lifts for passengers, goods, firefighting and accessible platform lifts. The team is also designing 74 escalators and moving walkways throughout the complex.
The hotel at Jahan is a high-rise building reaching 26 floors with an additional 5 basement levels for car parking. The office element of this mixed-use scheme is stretched over three towers covering a mix of 24 to 26 floors. Residential blocks contain 12 lifts over 12 to 15 floors. The shopping mall will have three scenic glass lifts creating a central feature in the large atrium space, as well as front of house passenger lifts and back of house service lifts. Multiple escalators are provided to move people between the car parking, food hall, and shopping mall levels. Including providing access to the green spaces upon the roof of the mall with extensive views of the surrounding area.
Our Vertical Transportation team has been working closely with our Fire engineering department to ensure that the firefighting lift design is reviewed and complies to both local and international regulations.
Both teams have been working with local consultants to ensure designs adhere to Iranian regulations, however our teams have also incorporated BS EN 81-20:2014 (Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts - Lifts for the transport of persons and goods) and NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) as a way of incorporating best practice into designs.
A fire strategy has been developed for all elements of the site, including the shopping mall where a smoke control design has been developed to ensure that the malls and escape routes remain available to use during escape. The escape routes have also been planned efficiently to maximise lettable areas of the various building elements.
The unique Sky Lounge at the top of the Tower A1 office block allows unique views across the city overlooking the famous Imam Reza shrine, with an express lift taking passengers straight to it. Due to the number of visitors expected, the fire strategy has incorporated careful planning in order to meet the client’s requirements.
The teams have worked with the architect based in Madrid and attended virtual meetings online which has worked well and provides a sustainable way of working.
