ING Bank's new London headquarters is a 135,000ft² building spread over eight floors and includes a variety of specialist areas including financial trading, historical artefact archives, art gallery, high resilience MER/SER rooms, 150 seat auditorium, gym and studio wine cellar and tasting areas, fine dining kitchen, staff kitchen and restaurant facilities.
Our key challenge was to adapt and re-configure the base build systems to support such mixed use. The building was selected prior to completing the MEP due diligence exercise, therefore a number of short falls in the building had to be designed out, such as riser provision for the canteen. Other challenges to the site was that the façade was listed, meaning we could not make new penetrations, existing opening had to be reused and mechanical plant and duct routes designed to suit these existing provisions.
This 400,000sqft (37,000sqm) office contains restaurants, a gym, relaxation areas, 300 person townhall, Google X labs, health and wellbeing areas, techtalks, libraries and research areas.
Our new London office at One Carter Lane is the first building in Europe to achieve WELL Certification through the WELL Building Standard™ (WELL).
Cundall started working with Derwent London at Brunel Building from 2004, in its earliest guise. In early 2013, Derwent London entered into an option agreement with the freeholder and head leaseholder of the site, unlocking the development of approx. 240,000ft2 of commercial office space, in addition to a residential block, being developed in agreement with the head leaseholder.
