Cundall is providing sustainable design and LEED consultancy on the Health Innovation Building (HIB) in the University of South Australia’s new Health and Biomedical Precinct. An iconic and technically complex building, the HIB represents a unique opportunity for the university to establish a world class facility that is at the forefront of international pharmacy and cancer research and allied health education.
With a budget of $247.3m and approximate GFA of 28,000m² the building is being designed and constructed to target a certified LEED® Gold rating, reflecting the university’s commitment to sustainability in its largest ever capital project. The Health Innovation Building will bring together and grow a collaboration of students educators, researchers and the public in an innovative context to enable knowledge creation and transfer and will bring in to being new applications for health, pharmacy and cancer research.
Cundall’s role as LEED consultant has been to coordinate with the relevant design disciplines to deliver:
The Baddiley-Clark Building, a new building for Newcastle University's Faculty of Medical Sciences, which brings together a critical mass of world-leading bacterial cell biologists and provides them with state-of-the-art facilities in which to push the boundaries of research and knowledge.
The South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) is the first project in South Australia and the first laboratory building in Australia to achieve LEED Gold certification.
The University of Wollongong’s Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) is designed to be a living laboratory. The centre will test a range of existing sustainable building technologies, whilst researching and developing new products in conjunction with industry partners.
