Cundall was the civil and structural engineer for the design of the estates improvement programme to 5 locations in County Durham and Darlington. The scheme involved the construction of:

Bowburn Fire Training facility
The Bowburn fire training facility provides a dedicated fire training facility which incorporates BA training, Fire Behaviour facilities as well as a dedicated motorway/highway impact training area. The facility also provides a training tower and working at height facility as well as the main facilities building which accommodates three appliance bays as well as multiple classrooms and facilities accommodated over two floors.

Particular features of the structural/civil engineering design include traffic accident rescue area, foams and other fire suppressant area – effluent treatment, fuel storage areas, training tower, pumped foul water drainage and rainfall attenuation.

Sniperley Fire Station
A new fire station building with training tower and associated external yard area offering in curtilage training facilities. The main fire station building accommodates full time shift pattern firefighting crew and provides garaging for five full size appliances and kitchen/canteen and locker rooms as well as a gymnasium, local fire watch office facility and youth training facilities. The external yard provides access to the dedicated firefighting training building as well as local fuel storage tanks and lift tank provision. There is associated secure car parking for 58 vehicles.

Crook Fire Station
A new fire station building with training tower and associated external yard area offering in curtilage training facilities. The main fire station building accommodates call in firefighting crew and provides garaging for two full size appliances and catering, kitchen and changing facilities, gymnasium, local fire watch office facility as well as a youth room to encourage engagement with the local community. The chosen site is lower than the adjacent highway and to ensure access at all times a heated ramp has been provided.

The external yard provides access to the dedicated firefighting training building, this has been designed to suit the particular requirements of CDDFRS. The scheme also incorporates fuel storage facilities, lift tank provision and bespoke areas for vehicle wash down and cleaning. There is associated secure car parking for 18 vehicles.

Aycliffe day Crew Centre
A new residential accommodation block adjacent to the existing fire station at Newton Aycliffe and incorporated en-suite bedrooms, kitchens, and rest area lounges for accommodating local or visiting fire crews. The building provides ten en-suite bedrooms with accommodation over one floor, with internal self-contained plant room and kitchen/dining facilities.

Seaham Day Crew Centre
A new residential accommodation block adjacent to the existing fire station at Seaham and incorporated en-suite bedrooms, kitchens, and rest area lounges for accommodating local or visiting fire crews. The building provides seven en-suite bedrooms with accommodation over two floors, with internal self-contained plant room and kitchen/dining facilities.
