Cundall was commissioned to design a new data centre in Cobalt Business Park. The data centre was constructed on a speculative basis, with the shell completed in August 2010. The building accommodates four tailored data halls, each with a power density of 1400W/m2.

In order to meet the requirements of BREEAM 'Excellent', the landlord's office space was designed to be naturally ventilated in the summer and mechanically ventilated in the winter. Space heating was provided via air source heat pumps, and electricity supplemented via photovoltaic. A return on investment study was conducted for cold aisle containment.

The data hall is enhanced by free-cooling air-cooled chillers, variable speed pumps and EC Fan CRAC units to deliver cooling via a raised accessible floor. The electrical power distribution system comprises static uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with standby rated generators.
