The BRIT School project involved the construction of a new two storey music and dance facility housed within an extension building to the existing main school building. When the new facility was completed the existing building was refurbished to create a larger canteen area, a relocated Library facility and a new Lecture Theatre space as part of a re-organisation after the music and dance areas have transferred to the new building.
The new building is defined by the special acoustic requirement of a modern performance arts college and as such has a sealed facade with mechanical ventilation and cooling.
The building has a planning condition to achieve 10% minimum carbon savings, and this is achieved by means of a closed loop borehole system, providing ground source energy to VRF heat pump condensers. A high level of heat recovery is provided in the two air handling units, together with energy saving lighting, sustainable drainage and a strictly controlled site operation, all help to achieve the BREEAM "Very Good" target.
Acting with a combined service role of building services Consultants, Civil Structural consultants, Cundall produced a full detailed design and specification for the project.
Cundall were able to bring an increased level of service structure co-ordination to the project, as both disciplines were delivered from the same office.
The relocation of diverse elements of Central St Martins College of Art and Design (CSM) into a new central campus on the 61 acre Kings Cross goods yard redevelopment was a major undertaking for the college and university.
Cundall was appointed to provide building services and sustainable design for the College Francais Bilingue de Londres within Kentish Town, London.
