Alkimos is Perth’s newest masterplanned community, plans include a regional town centre, a coastal village, possible marina facilities, substantial public open space and a range of social and community infrastructure. Upon completion Alkimos will cover 711 hectares comprising approximately 7,000 homes and be home to over 50,000 people.
Cundall worked with Lendlease and the design team to achieve Australia’s first 6 star Green Star Communities rating. Using elements from both the Communities v0 and Communities v0.1 tools, this rating demonstrates leadership and commitment to sustainability by encouraging diversity, efficiency, innovation and economic development.
The project site will eventually host 3.6 hectares of playing fields, six hectares of conservation reserves and 41 hectares of dune and foreshore reserves. All homes will be within 800 metres of both the local centre and transport links. Thirty per cent of the site will be reserved for open space; no home will be more than 200 metres from a park, and walking and cycle paths will link the beach, the town centre and the train station. WiFi will be provided in major public spaces to foster economic and social opportunities.
