This development is a new high-performance 50m swimming pool for the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), for use by both elite athletes and students. The centre has facilities for both Sports Science and Sports Medicine. All of the facilities are suitable for use by disabled swimmers and athletes.

The facility is part of the University of Sterling's Centre of Sporting Excellence, which combines medicine and sports science. Cundall was also responsible for the Gannochy Sports centre that lies adjacent to the pool. The whole scheme was designed for both training and competition use, to a televised standard.

The pool is connected to the University's district heating system. The pool lighting system utilises both daylighting and indirect lighting by means of uplighters and reflectors. This latter system avoids the need for any maintenance over the water surface.

Cundall provided all engineering services for the building, providing optimised solutions for both the building's structural form and engineering services, which resulted in a very efficient space-to-volume ratio, with corresponding savings in capital and running costs.
