10-22 Nelson Street, Newcastle upon Tyne is part of Intu Eldon Square, which dominates the retail core of the city centre and is one of the largest shopping destinations in the UK. In total Intu Eldon Square comprises 140 stores which include 20 new restaurant units. 

Cundall provided structural engineering, transportation services and CDM Coordination to assist with the refurbishment of the building.

Built as a separate building in the 19th century, only the external façade was retained after the rest of the building was demolished as part of the construction of Eldon Square Shopping centre in the 1970’s.

Cundall’s works involved removing and re-fixing stonework, pin and stitching vertical fractures, descaling works, repointing, hammer testing and production of the pre-construction information that ensured the design, construction and use of the building was undertaken with due regard to the health and safety of all involved.

Cundall’s services were a key part in all of the necessary liaison required between the highways department, tenants, client, contractors and members of the public.
