Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley Development, known as “The Malings”, has been shortlisted for the Planning Excellence Award in the North East Regional Awards for Planning Excellence 2016.
These awards celebrate the diversity of planning achievement, whether in urban or rural areas, large or small in scale, involving new development, regeneration or conservation, and whether promoted by the public, private or community sectors.
The judges look beyond purely physical outcomes to recognise innovative plans, processes, techniques, information systems, programmes of community involvement and improvements to public services.
The Malings is a development of 59 homes and two small retail units on brownfield land in Newcastle’s Byker ward. Cundall was the planning consultant for the project and worked with, among others, Ash Sakula Architects, Carillion-Igloo and Gentoo Tolent.
Ian Cansfield, Director of Planning commented: “We are delighted that The Malings has been shortlisted for another award after already being named as Supreme Winner in the National Housing Design Awards. We are immensely proud to have been working on this exciting project and seeing the positive impact that it has had in regenerating the Ouseburn area. It is particularly satisfying that the project is being recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute and for the work carried out by our team of in-house Planning Specialists.”
The winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 7 October 2016 .
