The Malings named Supreme Winner at Housing Design Awards Share this article

The Malings, Ouseburn, Newcastle has been named Supreme Winner at the Housing Design Awards on Tuesday 11 July 2016.

The awards, launched in 1947 in a bid to drive quality during the rebuild of post-war Britain, are viewed as the most important and distinguished in the industry and Cundall is delighted that one of its projects has been recognised.

Beating competition from across the country, The Malings was praised by the judges for its commitment to quality design and sustainability and was selected as the winner having fulfilled the major criteria; to explain what residents think about innovative design and whether it can be replaced.

The Malings is a development of 59 homes and two small retail units on brownfield land in Newcastle’s Byker ward. Cundall was the planning consultant for the project and worked with, among others, Ash Sakula Architects, Carillion-Igloo and Gentoo Tolent.

Ian Cansfield
, Director of Planning commented: “Cundall is really proud to have been involved with this award-winning project – We overcame a range of challenges to secure planning consent and it is fantastic to see the results of the hard work that the whole team put in. It’s also been really rewarding to see how well this has been received by the judges and most importantly the new home-owners.”
