SuDS Award win for The Water Gardens Share this article

The Water Gardens has been named joint winner of the small scale retrofit category at the susdrain SuDS Awards 2020

Cundall designed the drainage to this city centre refurbishment which saw new pools fountains and walkways for residents of the luxury flats. Working alongside landscape architects, Refolo, Cundall was able to develop a sustainable drainage system that reused surface water that could then be incorporated into the pools.

Entrants to the susdrain awards are encouraged to enter community projects across the UK that show outstanding, innovative and high-quality SuDS (sustainable drainage scheme) . Susdrain commented that 2020 saw an unprecedented number of entries at very high quality.

Comments from the judges included: “A beautiful space creatively refurbished. Uncovering forgotten water management techniques. Bringing colour where so many grey spaces exist. This is quality thinking”.

Paul De Vere, Associate, commented "This was a challenging project to retrofit a SuDS scheme into especially given the tight constraints we had to work within, but we are extremely pleased with the outcome achieved by the project team. The desire for SuDS inclusion from the outset by the team and client meant half the challenge was already achieved. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!"
