Here East wins RICS Social Impact Project of the Year

UK and Europe 23 June 2020

Here East has been awarded Commercial Project of the Year at RICS Social Impact Awards.

Cundall provided the building services, lighting design and vertical transportation engineering services for the redevelopment of the former Media Campus at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and more specifically converted the Main Press Centre, Main Media Conference Room and International Broadcasting Centre for Legacy use.

The awards recognise the built environment's positive and transformational contribution to society and the range of projects and initiatives in the 2020 lineup, including Here East, showcases the very best from across London.

The judges commented:

“Here East’s innovation and technology campus has brought the Olympic media centres back into full and vibrant use, with minimal environmental impact in construction and use. It provides commercial rental space plus affordable workspace for start-ups on flexible leasing terms. The centre collaborates with academic, sports and tech institutions to nurture growth and excellence in e-sports, cybersecurity and creative industries. By offering mentorships, educational and summer school opportunities, the centre builds community and fulfils an economic and social need in the area.“

Steve Cook, Partner, Cundall commented:

“It is a great achievement for the Here East development to receive recognition as this prestigious RICS award. Our role as engineers is to support social value, reduce our environmental impact and enhance the wellbeing of occupiers. We are proud to have been recognised for our efforts and involvement on this amazing project.”
