Double award win at CIBSE Building Performance Awards Share this article

Cundall is delighted to have picked-up two awards at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards.

The CIBSE Building Performance Awards recognise the people, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence in the built environment. They are the only industry awards that focus on actual, measured performance outcomes and not just design intent or performance specifications.

We are ecstatic to have been named winners in not just one but two categories at this year’s awards, picking up the trophy for Building Performance Consultancy of the Year (101-1000 employees) and Learning and Development for the Cundall Diploma.

The Consultancy of the Year Award recognises the consultancy which has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the design or refurbishment of buildings to meet client expectations of performance, including occupant satisfaction, comfort and energy performance, throughout the operating life.

When asked why Cundall was selected for the Building Performance Consultancy of the Year award, the judges commented:

  • “Comprehensive and convincing.”
  • “Cundall has its own sustainability roadmap and a stated intention to go beyond the ‘business-as-usual’ agenda. Cundall's submission was one of the few to mention encouraging clients to go beyond standard practice and has provided some excellent examples.”
  • “An excellent submission that avoids falling into the trap of a sales pitch, and instead provides sound, substantiated evidence of its approach and achievements.”

The Learning and Development Award recognises the organisation that can demonstrate how their learning and development initiative has improved the understanding of building performance within the organisation and/or in the wider built environment sector.

When asked why Cundall was selected for the Learning and Development award, the judges commented:

  • “The investment in terms of time and effort given to the programme really impressed us.”
  • “A very good feedback mechanism so their approach to continuous improvement really stood out.”
  • “We particularly liked the depth of the scheme and the inclusive way in which the initiative has been rolled out across Cundall.”

This is a great achievement for Cundall and one we are really proud of. Alan Fogarty, Sustainability Partner, remarked, “The CIBSE Building Performance awards are very important to Cundall, as they show we practice what we preach. The awards are evidence based and widely recognised from the leading industry body for Building Services Engineers in the UK. We are on a journey to develop leading performance services. In recent years, we’ve committed to WELL, indoor air quality sensor services, productivity mapping, and more recently the “Design for Performance” methodology. This focuses on getting the energy performance the client has paid for, whilst delivering healthy, productive environments. I’m proud we have won these awards, highlighting our continued commitment to performance in operation for our clients.”

And to conclude, some words of wisdom from Stephen Lisk, CIBSE President, “I would like to congratulate our finalists for having the skills… and the winners for their fine work.
By supporting the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 2019, you all have demonstrated your commitment to leading positive change, and for that I would like to thank you.”

Below are further comments from key leaders at Cundall.

Tomás Neeson, Managing Partner
“One of the most pleasing things about winning the awards was the number of our peers who came up to us on the night, complimenting Cundall on our industry leading professionalism, and finding out what they could do to copy our Sustainability Diploma. This reflects well on everyone in the business who has got involved and supported each other to get to this point.”

Amie Shuttleworth, Global Director of Sustainability
“I am so proud that the Diploma has won this prestigious award. We have over the last two years seen a huge amount of effort been put in by those participating on the course, creating the content, marking and organizing the logistics for it to run as smoothly as it has. Providing the knowledge, confidence and skills to all our staff, so that they can challenge our client’s designs and contribute to the creation of a fantastic built environment is central to our One Planet, One Chance roadmap, empowering everyone to be sustainable agents of change.”

Julian Sutherland, Building Services Partner
“It is fantastic to be recognised by our Peers for the leadership we show in Building Performance and Client engagement. The award for the Cundall Diploma confirms this is an industry leading programme and a credit to all of those involved.”
