Cundall gains carbon neutral status in Australia Share this article

Cundall’s Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide offices have been certified carbon neutral under the Australian Government’s National Carbon Offset Standard (NCOS). As part of their One Planet, One Chance sustainability roadmap, Cundall is targeting zero carbon for their global business by 2020, with the Australian offices the first to achieve this.

Carbon neutral certification under NCOS is achieved first by reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with the business (including electricity, gas, transport, materials procurement, waste and water) then compensating for the remaining emissions through the use of carbon offsets. Transparent public reporting and a robust strategy to reduce emissions in the future are also part of the process.

Cundall’s sustainability initiatives, which informed the carbon neutral certification, include 5.5 Star NABERS rating for their Adelaide office, the purchase of 100% renewable energy for their Sydney and Melbourne offices, and the purchase of Carbon Neutral paper.

David Clark, a Director and Partner of Cundall.

“As a One Planet Company and a founding signatory of the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Commitment we set ourselves clear goals to reduce our environmental impact and our carbon footprint. Obtaining NCOS certification is a major step towards achieving our goals by providing a transparent and robust third-party audited process to quantify then reduce our carbon footprint in Australia.”

Cundall has purchased and retired NCOS approved offsets from the 5000MW Ghani Solar Renewable Power Project by Greenko Group in Andhra Pradesh State of India.

“In the absence of a national price on carbon, we have purchased carbon offsets to provide a self-imposed carbon tax on our business. In future years, we will seek to find Carbon Offsets that also closely align with other social and environmental aspects of our One Planet, One Chance, sustainability roadmap.”
