Cundall engineers recognised as GBCA Green Star Champions 2020 Share this article
In celebration of Green Building Day taking place on the 16 June 2020, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has announced that three Cundall team members – Hannah Morton, Oliver Grimaldi and David Clark, are among those recognised as inaugural Green Star Champions 2020

GBCA CEO Davina Rooney said the award recognises the vision, passion and commitment of leaders across our industry who work tirelessly in the delivery of a more sustainable built environment through GBCA`s Green Star certification program.

Hannah Morton is an Associate in Cundall’s Sydney office and is currently on maternity leave. As a Green Star Accredited Professional, she has worked on over 50 Green Star projects. She has participated in a wide range of industry development groups including the GBCA Skills & Advisory Group, GBCA Resilience to Climate Change Impacts Expert Reference Panel and PCA Sustainable Development Committee.

“I have worked with many developers, contractors and architects to develop and implement sustainable solutions on a wide range of projects”, she said.

“Green Star has helped to establish a common language and clear benchmarks for sustainable design, drive legislative change and encourage teams to seek out more innovative solutions.”

Oliver Grimaldi is an Associate in Cundall’s Perth Office and is a Green Star Accredited Professional for both Design & As-Built and Communities. Oliver has helped deliver over 30 Green Star projects on some of Australia’s most prestigious developments. Oliver currently sits on the GBCA’s Community Planning and Engagement Expert Reference Panel and provides specialist technical advice related to Green Star and other matters. He is also a registered consultant to deliver Climate Active Carbon Neutral Precincts.

Oliver is optimistic and proud that he is making a difference doing what he is passionate about, he said:

“I read the incredible statistics about how many people now live and work in Green Star rated buildings and communities, and so being a Green Star Champion means that I can look back and know that I have contributed a significant amount to a better built environment for people in Australia”.

David Clark is a Director based in Sydney and has been involved with Green Star since before it was called Green Star, having developed an Australian version of BREEAM in 2002, which evolved to become the first Office Design tool in 2003. He is currently a member of the GBCA’s Green Star Advisory Committee and chairs the Technical Advisory Group which is overseeing the transformative new version of Green Star to be released in September 2020.

“Green Star has undoubtably changed the property market in Australia over the last 17 years and led to improved environmental and health and wellbeing outcomes in buildings. It has influenced the supply chain to deliver better products, helped educate designers, builders and developers to deliver better buildings, and been used as a de facto sustainability standard on hundreds of projects that aren’t seeking formal certification. I am looking forward to playing a small part in the continual evolution of Green Star to raise the bar for all buildings as we strive to achieve a climate positive future.”

Cundall has delivered over 120 Green Star projects in Australia for the planning, design and construction industry.
