The practice recently celebrated 20 years of providing engineering services in Ireland by hosting a party at the General Post Office (Ard-Oifig an Phoist), Dublin.
Brendan Dervan, Partner, set up his practice in 1999 under the name Brendan Dervan Engineering offering specialist electrical services. Employing two members of staff, Brendan started to win prestigious projects in the workplace and residential sectors with various developers.
2004 saw the company change its name to Dervan Engineering Consultants (DEC) and had increased its headcount to 16. DEC started to secure work with prestigious clients such as Office of Public Works, eir, and Irish Prison services.
DEC’s collaboration started with Cundall in 2014-on the design and construction of a 11.5MW data centre for DRT in Profile Park, Dublin. Brendan was also delivering schemes for the Office of Public Works, including the renovation of Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
Dervan Engineering officially joined Cundall in 2016, becoming the 20th Cundall office. Overnight, the Dublin team was able to benefit from specialist services and offer these to local clients putting the team in a unique position within the market.
Brendan commented “It is almost three years since the Dublin office of seven staff joined the Cundall global team of 650 people. The Dublin office has expanded from being a small local MEP office to being part of a multi-disciplinary global practice. Over the past two and half years we have endeavoured to create awareness of our brand name in the Irish market by way of technical presentations, speaking events, bids, general networking culminating in the celebration of our 20th anniversary on the 15th November. It was a really successful event with lots of positive soundings from all our clients who attended".
Tomás Neeson, Managing Partner, also commented “We were originally asked to come to Dublin to get involved in some hyperscale data projects, but we knew from the start we could do much more than that:- we came looking for talent. Already within Cundall across the globe, as far away as Melbourne, we have more than our fair proportion of engineering talent from Ireland, who in the past 25 years have helped lead and grow our international business, so we were and are keen to obtain more of this talent.
Delivering great projects which our clients love, and which are recognised as “best in class” is a part of the buzz, but the greater part of what we do is in providing opportunities for as many graduates and trainees as possible to develop long term meaningful careers in the built environment.
We are constantly striving to be able to offer more to our clients, and the recent expansion of our local offering to include Fire Engineering Consultancy demonstrates this commitment. We will expand further to provide much more of our multi-disciplinary services from here in Dublin with civil and structural engineering in 2019.
We are constantly looking forward as to what more we can do, and are heavily invested in both increasing the Health and Wellbeing agenda in all occupied spaces, and in Digital engineering, which will be transformational in our industry sector.
Our success in Ireland is based on our practice-wide ethos of providing ‘clever friendly engineers’ who deliver innovative solutions and exemplary service. We are looking forward to a future of working with all of our clients, building great relationships, great projects and greater careers for all!”
The celebration lasted long into the evening and the team would like to thank all the guests that were able to attend. We look forward to the next 20!
