Tuesday 30th June saw 20 riders take on the 108+ mile ride from Cambridge back to Birmingham in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Clients and suppliers, including LG cooling, Air Cool Midlands, Savills, GG&P, Systemair, Morrison Design and RLB joined Cundall staff to tackle sections of the A428 and A1 to cross the finish line at the children’s hospital in their quest to raise £10,000 for the charity. After 10.5 hours, in 33 degree heat (the hottest day of the year so far!), the team was able to hand a cheque to the hospital for a staggering £14,311, far exceeding the original target.
The team got off to a fantastic start from the grounds of Gonville and Caius College and negotiated their way through the route to their first pit-stop in Bedford, they then headed to Weedon followed by Warwick and finally to the finish line in Birmingham. During the ride the team came across steep hills, diversions and road closures but continued peddling to the end.
The 20 riders handed over the cheque to the hospital, which made their hard work pay off. The team were overcome with emotions and tiredness, but were able to make it back to the office to celebrate with colleagues and loved ones.
£10,000 will be going directly to the CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) unit. The service is based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and supports children with mental health problems. Funds raised over the original target will be going to the Complex Care Department for essential ward Improvements.
Alec Stewart, Partner, commented; "Since 2012, Cundall has supported Birmingham Children's Hospital as our nominated local charity, this year we wanted to raise the bar and set an ambitious target to exceed £10,000.
“We are delighted that the wider Midlands Property Industry have got behind the event and supported Cundall by providing both riders and generous donations.
“We would like to thank everyone who has donated and supported us with this event."
Elinor Eustace, Director of Marketing at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “We want to say a massive heartfelt thank you to Cundall for its continued and on-going support of our wonderful hospital.
“The money they intend to raise will help make a difference to the lives of our brave children and their families as we continue our plans to improve our facilities – enabling us to treat even more children from Birmingham, the West Midlands and around the country.”
