Ecobuild Seminar: Health + Comfort + Efficiency = the impossible dream?, London, 4th March 2015

Alan Fogarty, Sustainability Partner, spoke at Ecobuild 2015 on ‘Plants not Plant.'

The overarching theme of the panel was ‘Health + Comfort + Efficiency = the impossible dream?’ How do we achieve energy efficiency while creating healthy and comfortable buildings? A focus on energy saving may create the unintended consequences of over-heating or poor internal air quality that can have serious effects on the health and well-being of occupants. Is there a role for natural elements such as planting? How to manage the uncertainty of the unfolding effects of climate change over time needs to be an integral part of the brief and building design so that sufficient flexibility is built into the design to enable future changes for long term sustainability. This seminar put forward the evidence and argues for a balanced approach to achieving ‘the dream.'

Alan focused on how plants in buildings improve air quality, this is on the back of research by Cundall into how common plants have a positive impact on air quality in spaces when subjected to sufficient levels of daylight.

He spoke alongside these other industry leaders:
