Amie Shuttleworth, Global Director of Sustainability, spoke at the International Sustainability Conference in Guangdong (ISCG2018) on 8 November 2018 in Shenzhen, China.
ISCG2018 is an international sustainability conference founded in 2017 by a group of four consulates in Guangzhou – Australia, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom. Diplomatic partners worked in collaboration with Country Garden, China Southern Airlines and Huawei to deliver the event.
After ISCG’s first launch last year, it has been agreed that ISCG2018 should synergise with the Guangdong government’s aspiration for local firms to ‘Go Global’, Shenzhen’s intention to develop an innovation demonstration zone to implement China’s plan for the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and sustainable development initiatives across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
During the conference, Amie discussed the importance of built environment along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), with examples of the integration of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) into businesses and projects. Infrastructures are crucial support to the success of BRI. Amie demonstrated how businesses can optimise trading opportunities by also contributing towards the SDGs, which is a universally accepted way of the global community to reach sustainable equilibrium. Cundall, as a global sustainable agency, has positioned ourselves at the forefront of integrating sustainable elements into our business strategy and applying such as a tool on our daily projects.
