Guest Speakers: Innovation in Design, Birmingham, 26 September 2019

Danilo Cava, Engineer and Nicholas Karakoullis, Engineer will give a technical talk on ‘Innovation in Design’. The talk will focus on two case studies; ‘The Cundall Birmingham Office Staircase’ and ‘Parametric Modelling and Design’.

IStructE is the world's largest membership organisation dedicated to structural engineering. The Institution is an internationally recognised source of expertise and information concerning all issues that involve structural engineering and public safety within the built environment.

Nicholas will be talking about the design of our Birmingham office staircase which is designed to help maintain collaborative working whilst expanding onto another floorplate above. The presentation will describe the structural design of the staircase, which is based on an innovative lattice truss system, as well as the manufacturing process involved.

Danilo will provide an introduction to digital engineering, parametric modelling and visual scripting. Real project examples will be shared to show the capabilities and the potential of these tools.
