Julian Sutherland, Partner is the chair for a new steering group set up by UK-GBC to tackle the way the industry currently designs, constructs and operates non-domestic buildings.
This morning saw the launch of the group's first report, Delivering Building Performance, which sets out the success factors and steps required to tackle the gap between building design and building performance. The report addresses energy efficiency but also other aspects of performance that impact both the building user and wider environment.
The task group has been working with UK-GBC members to explore how companies are already addressing the issue of building performance, looking at best practice, and to identifying gaps and barriers that still need to be overcome.
Julian commented that “reliable, accurate and considered building performance needs to become the norm for all buildings, both existing and new. Sadly there is no quick fix, but the evidence tells us it can be achieved by collaboration across the entire building lifecycle and a focus on a small number of common metrics.”
