Jonathan Smith, Structural Engineer, will be speaking at Northumbria University on Monday 13 November.
Jonathan will be presenting his findings on retaining walls to third year Structural Engineering students. The lecture forms part of the geotechnical engineering module and covers the fundamental engineering theory of soil mechanics and retaining walls, giving examples of retaining wall designs from previous Cundall projects.
During a secondment to the Civil Engineering department Jonathan used his geotechnical knowledge from his PhD research to present an internal CPD on the design of gabion retaining walls and produced ‘in-house’ calculation packages for their design. It is the internal CPD session, and his experience of teaching undergraduates during his PhD at Durham, that will form the basis for this lecture.
The lecture is exclusive to students of Northumbria University.
