Jonathan Yau, Sustainability Associate Director, presented at the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Research Forum on 11th July 2019. He presented how Cundall has helped CIC in developing and implementing the CIC online Carbon Assessment Tool.
One of CIC’s goals is to promote sustainable and low carbon construction. As part of a series of Research Forums partnered with local research institutes, the forums allows researchers and practitioners to share their research outcomes and best practices to adopt innovative technology and products in the construction industry.
During the forum, Jonathan presented the innovative online Carbon Assessment Tool that we have been developing with CIC. This carbon assessment tool is an online tool that helps the Hong Kong construction industry to achieve an overall carbon reduction target. This online tool can calculate and identify each project’s embodied carbon and analyse the type of material that is exceeding the carbon target.
This online carbon assessment tool is the first carbon assessment tool in Hong Kong that provides a common assessment platform across the industry. The tool will not only enable designers and contractors to measure carbon performance for each project, but it will also be free of charge to the general public who are interested to learn more about carbon emissions of construction materials. We are confident that the Carbon Assessment Tool will promote awareness of sustainable construction among all major players in the industry, therefore, another step closer to reach the overall carbon reduction in the Hong Kong construction industry.
