Guest Speaker: BEC Low Carbon Hong Kong Workshop, 18 September 2018

Amie Shuttleworth, Global Head of Sustainability in Hong Kong will be speaking at the Business Environment Council (‘BEC’) Low Carbon Hong Kong Construction and Construction Materials Workshop on 18th September 2018 at 09:00 to 11:00.

As a key signatory to the Paris Agreement, China committed to: reduce the carbon intensity of its GDP, the amount of emissions per unit of economic output, by 60-65% by 2030 from 2005 levels; peak absolute emissions by 2030; and increase the area covered by forest, so that the forest carbon stock volume increases by around 4.5 billion cubic meters from 2005 levels.

The Low Carbon Hong Kong Project initiative is to assist in the achievement of the new 2030 target. By working in parallel with the Government to support businesses in setting and achieving the necessary targets, BEC will provide a framework for businesses to develop strategies for longer time horizons.

Following from the launch of the Low Carbon Hong Kong: Supporting Business to Set Targets report, the current phase of the project is to work on a sectoral level focusing on property and construction. Amie, as an expert in sustainable procurement, will offer insights for sustainability and engineering professionals of construction and construction materials companies, as well as sustainability, design,
and procurement professionals of property developers to better understand low carbon procurement as applied to construction and construction materials at the workshop. Architects and consultants are also welcome to join, as they have an important supporting role to play.

Other experts joining the discussion are:

  • Ms Anne Jacobs at BASF
  • A speaker from Construction Industry Council
