Breakfast Talk and Tour: Airpocalypse Now, London, 28 June 2017

Due to popularity, Cundall and the British Council for Offices (BCO) will be repeating May's Airpocalypse Now event on 28 June 2017.

Recently, London has faced its worst period of air pollution for a number of years. People have begun to wake-up to the need for monitoring and reporting of internal air quality, to protect occupants’ health.

Our panel of experts in the field will return to discuss this growing concern. Dr Henry Burridge, Lecturer of Environmental Fluid Mechanics at Imperial College London, will talk about the research they have conducted at Imperial on air quality and how they are monitoring it. Ruth Calderwood, Air Quality Manager at City of London, will talk about the policy and wide range of measures the City of London is implementing to reduce local pollution.

As part of a yearlong R&D project on the back of our commitment to WELL certification, Cundall has developed its own sensor and monitoring system, IEQube™, to measure air and environmental quality in our offices. So how does our office fare amid London’s latest Airpocalypse? We compared the particulate concentration inside our office to the nearest monitoring station in the City of London, Alan Fogarty, Sustainable Partner at Cundall, will be discussing what we found and other issues that caused the variable air quality.

You will then get the opportunity to view our new office at One Carter Lane which is the first project in Europe, and seventh in the world, to achieve certification to the WELL Building Standard® - a performance-based certification system that marries best practices in design and construction with evidence-based medical and scientific research.

As consulting engineers, we spend the clear majority of our time designing systems, spaces, and buildings with little in the way of feedback as to the success or failure of our designs.
