Lynne Lynam

Human Resources Adviser

Newcastle, United Kingdom

Who are you and what do you do?
As HR and Training Advisor, I work in the Newcastle office as part of the Human Resources team. My responsibilities include providing general HR advice and support, creating the training plan and managing training needs for the business, co-ordinating the monthly payroll, managing our graduate training schemes and supporting our employees towards professional registration.

What inspired you to work in your current role?
After completing my BSc (Hons) in Psychology, I left university still not knowing what direction I wanted to go in. I saw an advert for an HR role, and although it was not something I had considered before, the job sounded interesting so I applied and was lucky enough to get it. I have not looked back and have enjoyed working in HR ever since!

What made you decide to join Cundall?
At the interview, the main message that came across was how much time and energy Cundall invest in the training and development of their employees and this made a refreshing change from the previous company I had worked for. It was a great opportunity to get involved in this aspect of HR as well as an opportunity to develop my own skills.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
HR covers a broad spectrum from recruitment and selection; reward and recognition; learning and development to employment law and employee relations. I enjoy the variety in my role and I enjoy being able to pick and choose what I do on any given day... as long as my deadlines are met of course!

What are you most proud of in your career to-date?
I once won an award for ‘best support staff team member’ voted for by fellow colleagues. An occasional pat on the back makes all the hard work worthwhile!

Tell us the most interesting thing you have learnt or experienced in your time at Cundall
In order to gain a greater understanding of what our Engineers do, I had the opportunity to join one of our Structural Engineer on a site visit to the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. Cundall was involved in this project, which included extending the stage area into an adjacent building which had previously been a bank and installing a new flying system for moving scenery. I had the opportunity to climb up to the very top of this beautiful Grade 1 listed building and view the scenery system and the stage below (not for the faint hearted!)
