Who are you and what do you do?
I am the Marketing Manager for the Asia Pacific region of Cundall working with our four Australian offices and three Asian offices to deliver our Marketing and Business Development strategy. Working with our international marketing team, I manage bids, PR, events, marketing collateral and online content for the region. I am also actively involved in the international content marketing strategy, managing Cundall’s blog Cundall Conversations.
What inspired you to work in your current role?
I joined Cundall as a marketing assistant with 18 months of marketing experience. In the eight years with Cundall, I have worked with a number of experienced marketing professionals who provided guidance and gave me opportunities to further my career. Throughout my career at Cundall I have been given more responsibility and the chance to prove my skills and knowledge which has led to me becoming a marketing manager.
What made you decide to join Cundall?
The first was my passion for sustainability and my desire to work for a company that is working in this field. I did not know much about the construction industry at the time of applying, however after reviewing the Cundall website I was excited about how much the built environment could change everyone’s impact on the world. The second was their international coverage, I started with Cundall based in the Newcastle office in the UK, I am now based in Sydney and have been lucky Cundall supported this move.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety! If you told me beforehand that I would find construction and engineering interesting I would have laughed. This week alone I have wrote about a white water rafting course, a shopping mall, a new research facility and a floating ferry terminal. Working with seven offices also has a number of cultural differences which keeps my job interesting.
What are you most proud of in your career to-date?
Moving across to Sydney. I was very fortunate that this role made available for me. I was tasked with making our marketing and communications more global and connecting the Asia Pacific offices with the rest of the practice to maximise business development with our global clients. It was great that Cundall’s partners had so much faith in my skills and I hope I have met their expectations.
Tell us the most interesting thing you have learnt or experienced in your time at Cundall
There is never a stupid question! To market Cundall’s services you have to understand what we do. I spend time with engineers and listen to the clever things they are doing. I ask lots of questions (sometimes stupid) so I understand things thoroughly and I am lucky that the engineers here at Cundall are happy to explain. By doing this, I can communicate how Cundall adds value and explain why clients should appoint us.
